Hobocon will not tolerate harassment.

Anyone can report harassment by Hobocon participants to a Hobocon volunteer.

Hobocon participants who choose not to stop harassing behavior will be asked to leave physical and digital events.

[STATEMENT_OF_APPLICABILITY]

Hobocon welcomes and encourages a culture built on a diversity of viewpoints; it is how we grow and thrive. Hobocon expects an atmosphere where everyone is approachable and skepticism is encouraged. This Code of Conduct is one of the ways we support and protect our values and it applies to everyone participating in Hobocon activities. Ultimately, if someone tells you your conduct is inappropriate or unwelcome, you are behaving in a way that is not compatible with this Code of Conduct.

[HARASSMENT]

"Harassment" includes deliberate intimidation and targeting of individuals or groups in a manner that makes them feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or afraid. Harassment can take the form of unwelcome contact in-person, online, or some combination of the two. Harassment may or may not be sexual in nature.

[WHO_ARE_HOBOCON_PARTICIPANTS]

"Participants" include meeting attendees, speakers, volunteers, sponsors, and Amtrak staff. If they're in the building during a meeting, on the Hobocon Discord, or using the #Hoboconhashtag, they're a participant.

[COMPLIANCE]

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. Hobocon reserves the right to respond to harassment in the manner deemed appropriate including but not limited to expulsion from the meeting, banning from Discord, referral to the relevant authorities, and permanent exclusion from all Hobocon activities.

[CHALLENGE_IDEAS_NOT_PEOPLE]

This phrase is repeated at the beginning of every meeting. It is our core value as an organization and we take it seriously. It means, "No personal attacks".

Hobocon is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices.

[MEETINGS_ARE_UNRATED]

Hobocon meetings are considered an event for adults. Participants should assume that the language will be foul and the jokes may be crude. That said, the Code of Conduct still applies. "Harassment" and "unwelcome contact" are in the eye of the beholder. Complaints will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by a group of Hobocon volunteers.

The Hobocon Code of Conduct applies to our Discord channel as well as our meetings. If someone tells you they are uncomfortable, you must stop.

[REPORTING]

Anyone can and should report harassment. If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, you can contact one of the following Hobocon staff volunteers:

  • > jigglebilly
  • > rixon
  • > zuul
  • > sysaaron

Volunteers will be introduced during the opening remarks. Volunteers will be circulating during the conference and are always available to chat about any issues that arise.

If you wish to provide documentation or want to contact Hobocon, you can email hobocon@seckc.org or DM @rixon, @jigglebilly, @zuul, or @sysaaron in Discord.

Hobocon volunteers will be happy to help participants contact venue security, local law enforcement, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of Hobocon.

[REMEMBER] Hobocon is what you make of it, and as a community we can create a great experience for everyone.
